About this tool

dailymotiondl saves a public Dailymotion video to your device as an MP4, or its audio alone as an M4A. There is no account, no app, no extension and no charge.

How it actually works

Dailymotion does not store a whole MP4 anywhere. It serves video as HLS — a playlist plus dozens or hundreds of short pieces — which is what lets a player change quality mid-stream. Anything calling itself a downloader has to collect those pieces and join them back into one file.

This site splits that work. The server reads what Dailymotion offers and passes the pieces through, because Dailymotion refuses to hand them to a web page directly. The joining happens in your browser, on your machine. The finished file is created there and is never uploaded anywhere.

What it cannot do

It can only read what Dailymotion would serve to an ordinary viewer. Videos an uploader has restricted to certain countries, and videos protected by a password, are refused — and the site tells you which of the two it was rather than handing you a broken file.
